WARWICK – Sul cartello fuori dal Warwick Motel in Overlook Drive, sulla Route 17A, nella località di Warwick, si legge: “Chiuso al pubblico: Non disponibile per il prossimo anno – motel completamente prenotato.” E una chiamata in ufficio si conclude con un messaggio che dice che non è possibile lasciare un messaggio, perché la segreteria é piena.
Il proprietario Hari Godhwani dice che l’intero motel è stato affittato, da uno a tre anni dalla Società Torre di Guardia e riaprirà nel 2016. La società ha acquistato nel 2009 un sito di 253 acri in Sterling Forest e progetta di spostare la sua sede mondiale di Brooklyn a Warwick.
Il Warwick Motel, come l’Hampton Inn a Newburgh, che la Società Torre di Guardia ha acquistato a marzo con altre proprietà locali, verrà utilizzato per ospitare a breve termine volontari Testimoni di Geova che lavorano su quasi 1, 5 milioni di metri quadrati per la nuova sede della società. I volontari sono membri delle commissioni edilizie regionali provenienti da tutti i 50 stati.
Il Corpo Direttivo della Watchtower Bible Tract Society si aspetta che il progetto possa essere completato nel 2016. Il costo del progetto, fortemente sovvenzionato dal lavoro volontario, sarà di 11,5 milioni di dollari, mentre le vendite della attuale proprietà di Brooklyn supererà 1 miliardo di dollari.
Il motel era chiuso da due anni a causa di un incendio, Godhwani ha acquistato l’edificio danneggiato e dopo una completa ristrutturazione, ha riaperto il motel nel 2009 con 22 camere. “Questa offerta è arrivato al momento giusto “, ha detto. Anche se questo limita la disponibilità di pernottamenti per i visitatori, il sindaco Michael Newhard ha spiegato che il motel, un’impresa privata, ha il diritto di occupare camere anche su un lungo periodo. Il Direttore della Camera di Commercio ha suggerito, oltre al motel prescelto, anche strutture motel disponibili nelle vicinanze del lago Greenwood.
